Windshield Repair OEM vs Aftermarket Glass

Auto Glass replacement should be done by a professionally trained shop. You want to look for companies that are using OEM/OEE auto glass. There are many reasons why OEM is important, but it helps with the safety of your vehicle. OEM is the glass that was originally designed for your vehicle, no matter the make and the model. Some companies out there make what’s called Aftermarket auto glass. Aftermarket glass is made by companies that do not contract with any car manufacturers, and do not have the legal right to manufacture auto glass to the exact same specifications as OEM distributors due to licensing and copyright laws. Aftermarket glass is significantly cheaper than OEM or dealer glass. It’s usually a different thickness than OEM glass and does not carry the same guarantees as OEM auto glass.

We try to recommend people that have cracks and chips to get them repaired before they get worse. It is much cheaper to get them repaired early, rather than replace the windshield entirely. Many times a chip in the windshield or a crack can be filled in the early stage preventing the windshield replacement. Chips can be filled prolonging the life of your windshield and saving on the cost of replacement. Without filling the chip or crack, it is going to get worse and to the point of needing replaced. In areas that have extreme heat, extreme cold or not the best of roads can cause a small chip or crack to get worse very fast. This is why it is best to repair the auto glass before it gets worse. This also turns into a larger expense for you or the insurance company. You can find an auto glass company at most car washes doing chip repairs and it’s very fast to get that done. There are many different types of chips, cracks and some are: Bulls Eye, Chip, Combination Break, Ding, Edge Crack, Floater Crack, Half Moon, Long Crack, Partial Bulls Eye, Pit, Star Break, Stone Break & Stress Crack. These are some of the technical terms of chips, dings & crack in your windshield.

Most companies will schedule to have your auto glass replaced within a day or 2 after you call. It usually takes about 1-2 hours to properly replace your auto glass and put new glass in your vehicle. After the glass is replaced you will be able to drive your car about an hour later after installation. You will need to keep the windows cracked in the vehicle ffor about 24 hours to ensure proper adhesion. You want to make sure you look for EOM, reviews of the company and if they are offering any kind of rebate to you when you are looking for a good company to replace your auto glass.
